All my life I have been a dreamer. I’ve had dreams of traveling, dreams of marriage and family, dreams of happily ever after the same as most young girls did. But on the other side of that dream-coin was fear because as much as I wanted those dreams to materialize, I was just as afraid to pursue them. I was afraid that I could be or couldn’t do or couldn’t have whatever it was that my heart desired. So, I settled for what I thought I could get.
Dreaming God’s dreams
Some years ago I read a book by Bruce Wilkinson called The Dream Giver, do you know it? It’s an excellent book, I would highly recommend it. In it, the writer showed that my dreams are not just mine, but were placed there by God. When I learned that, my heart brightened. I was able to do some hard things that I been told I couldn’t do. Still, other big dreams were left unfulfilled. It seemed no matter how much my heart yearned for more, trying was so much scarier than not trying at all.
Now, it’s time to remember all that the Lord has brought me through. Abuse, cancer, job loss, divorce, single parenthood, anxiety, and paralyzing fear have all been part of my past. God gave me strength to follow dreams for more then, and he will do it again. It’s time to once again step out of my comfort zone and take another leap of faith.
It’s time to walk on water
This must be what Peter felt like in that storm as he watched Jesus walk on the water toward the boat. Peter said, “Lord, if it is you, tell me come to you on the water.” (Matthew 14:28 NIV) When Jesus told Peter to come, he stepped out of the boat. Peter is often criticized because he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the storm. When that happened, Peter began to sink. Jesus said, “You of little faith… why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:31 (NIV) But, if we focus on that, we miss a very important fact. Peter was the only disciple who got to walk on water. Compared to the other disciples, Peter had enormous faith, and water-walking was his reward.
Hello, Princess
Do you remember the story of the woman with the issue of blood? She was seen as unclean—untouchable—by her entire society for twelve long years, yet Jesus called her “Daughter,” and healed her affliction. (Luke 8:48 and Mark 5:34 NIV) Jesus spoke to her with love and compassion. Just as he did with her, he also calls you Daughter. He sees you with eyes of love and compassion. And he wants to heal you as well.
Our days here on this earth are numbered, dear sister. Our enemy is real and would love nothing more than for us to stay paralyzed in fear, but Jesus came to give us more that all we ask or imagine. Don’t let him rob you of what is your. (Ephesians 3:20 NIV) To fight back, you must remember who you are and, most of all, remember whose you are.
Dream big or go home
Don’t you want Jesus to call you out of the boat? Wouldn’t it be great to have a water-walking experience like Peter did? Don’t you want to be able to say, “I have finished my race,” as Paul did? I do. To do that I must accept that I AM a daughter of the one true God, and so must you.
Declare your place
I hope you will join me and take a step of faith. Say aloud, “I am a daughter of the King. I must wear the crown Jesus died to give me.” Allow me to encourage you to reject the lies that say you are not enough. Hold on to your favor, courage, and faith. They are your legacy, given to you by your Heavenly Father. Take hold of your rightful place as a daughter of the King. Hold on to them and don’t let anyone take your crown of glory from you!
